Will the harbor freight 2 ton engine hoist be enough/long to lift engine and transmission together out of the 3.0 2001 ranger. Will be putting newer motor and transmission assembly in too
Yes, 3.0l Vulcan should weigh about 450lbs at the most, depends on what you remove to lift it
Transmission, automatic 300lbs, manual 150lbs
So not even 1/2 ton, 1,000lbs
One heads up
When you lift up the engine you are taking the weight off the front springs, that is what is holding those springs 1/2 way down
So the front of the vehicle will come up very high as you lift off the weight, this can be an issue if you run out of "lift height" on the hoist, can't clear the engine bay
You can chain the front suspension while engine weight is still on it, so it can only come up a few inches
Or you can remove the front wheels so vehicle sits lower to start with
Put a piece of plywood over the windshield when pulling engine with trans attached, had a snag and release that broke a windshield once
Put a tight fitting plastic bag over tail shaft opening, as fluid will leak out when its at an angle
Thanks for the helpful information will take note of all of it. I will take the front tires off instead of chaining it should a take rotors and dust shield off too or just let it rest on rotors
Ok let me know if the picture loads. If thats the correct way to do for each side or do I need to take that apart then put it on the frame. Also is that just the front or should I also put rear on blocks
