I have a 2000 Ranger 3.0 put new coil, plugs, wires, cam portion sensor and crank positioning sensor in it and still acts like it's misfiring I can pull number 5 plug wire off the coil and it doesn't change how it runs.... any help would be appreciated
I doubt this is the problem but a quick check for actual spark at #5 cyl should be done. Easy to do with a long screwdriver in the plug wire boot and hold it close to a ground to see if the spark jumps from screwdriver to the ground. (Unless you have an actual spark tester) After you confirm you have spark which I'm guessing you do since you replaced everything, you need to go to the other 2 things needed for it to run.
And the only things left are fuel from the injector and compression. The compression is easier to check so I would do that first.
Nice looking Ranger............................should be Red
So gasoline engines need 3 things for a cylinder to fire
Spark, at the right time
Fuel, in the right mix with air
Compression, above 120psi
Testing compression is a pain but its either good or bad and can be taken off the table or be the problem so you don't waste time or money on non-fixes
So I would pull out all 6 spark plugs and then do a compression test
Cold engine test
If any cylinder is under 150psi then add a teaspoon of oil and retest, psi will go up but if it doesn't come up all the way then its a leaking valve
Ford used a Waste Spark system, this means 2 spark plugs share one coil in the coil pack
There are only 3 coils in your coil pack, not 6, which is why there are only 4 wires connected to it, one 12volt wire and 3 ground wires, one for each coil
The cylinders fire in Matched Pairs
[3 4]
[2 6]
[1 5]
Are the match Pairs
So thats the firing order on the coil pack, the 5 6 4 side is easy to mix up, check it
