5 Speedmanual: hard clunking when engaging
5 Speedmanual: hard clunking when engaging
Howdy, 2003 3.0 manual 5sp..
Tranny has been gradually getting harder to engage into gear over the last few weeks..
Example: this morning, fired it up, sat for a couple minutes, clutch in, & tried to engage 1st gear: it's like it hits a wall..
and won't go in. In fact, wouldn't go into ANY gear, including reverse.
I can feel a sort of.."clunk" when I try & force it in, in any gear: feel & hear a solid clunk sound from underneath he truck:
I'm assuming it's the transmission.
The only way I could get it going was in 2nd gear..
Once going down the road, it goes into higher gears, but even then, there's a little force required..
The only thing I know that's been done is a clutch job , probably 4 years ago..
Anything basic I might look at? or is this a job for a tranny shop..?
Appreciate any suggestions.. & thanks much

Shift gears engine off, if you can then its not a transmission issue
Not being able to shift into 1st when stopped is a clutch issue, usually it means there is air in the clutch hydraulic system and it needs to be bled
The clunk is more likely drive shaft related, i.e. slip joint and/or u-joint, engine off e-brake on, try to turn drive shaft back and forth to see if its loose
