I have a 91 ranger with the 2.9L engine. I am planning on doing an engine swap in the future, but for now, I want to know if anyone knows any kind of “mods” to make a little more power with the 2.9. It can be anything from aftermarket parts to DIY mods just wanna know what you guys have. Not looking to make big numbers just wanna see if it’s possible to get a little more boost! Any feedback is appreciated, thanks!

 

You aren’t going to get any real significant power gains to make it worth your time or money. But if you don’t care about the engine toss a NOS bottle on it and have some fun.

 

I've made several reliable mods. The 2.9 has more potential than others give it credit for. If you're good at turning a wrench you can spend more time than money. If you want to know all I've done to mine let me know.

 

add a cold air intake, ebay turbo do t run more than 9lbs boost on stock internals, cut the cats and run a 3in straight pipe if you dont want it that lound put a cherry bomb turbo muffler should put you around 300 horse

 

JETS sells a performance chip that will give you 25 more horse power. I think it cost like 270.00 you could start their. But there are other brands too but JETS is one of the more well known brands.
