94 3.0 5 speed slight knock,smoking now grinding

Alright trucks always seemed to have a slight tapping sound that got faster when accelerating went to town today truck had no problems was almost home and truck stalled so I got it restarted and kept going went to pull into driveway and truck shut off and went to restart and it's just grinding won't crank but checked under hood and took oil filler cap off and smoke just rolled out of it trucks always had a slight smoking problem from exhaust but never saw it smoke as much as it was today

Check for plugged PVC valve.
It's under the upper intake manifold at the back of the valve cover _ hard to see and get to.
The line that connects it to the manifold is usually shot too, they get hard and crack.

Well went to replace the starter and dropped the 10mm but so went to the front of truck to grab it and my heart dropped when I looked at the oil pan theirs half of a connecting rod that shot straight through the pan
I'm going to the army in 4 days so truck will be sitting while I decide if it's worth putting another motor in or 5.0 swapping or just getting rid of it

could probably find a junkyard block for a few hundred bucks if you wanted to replace the bottom end. Rangers are pretty common truck. At least around here.
