99 3.0 misfire solved
99 3.0 misfire solved
I had a misfire on cylinder 1 and threw a bunch of parts trying to resolve. It needed new plugs anyway but also replaced the coil and wires as well.
It turned out to be a bad injector on cylinder 1. Ordered a set from eBay for 68 and replaced all 6. Had to replace the intake gasket as well as the erg gasket.
Issues I ran into.
-The intake snorkel was a bitch to remove from the throttle body.
-Could not disconnect the fuel rail. Had to replace injectors with the fuel line connected.
-Valve cover and area around the injectors were caked with grime. Took about an hour to clean.
-Almost stripped out the intake bolts as the intake was not fully seated as I was torquing it down.
-I left the fuel line disconnect tool on the lower part of the line. I tried to disconnect it from there when I couldn’t get it off the rail. After buttoning everything up I started it up and cleared the codes. A minute later there was a pop and the truck died. I thought I forgot a coolant hose as there was a puddle under the truck. It was gas when the fuel line disconnected.
I cleaned the MAF as well as the throttle body while everything was taken apart. I also replaced the brake fluid in the reservoir.
Cleared the CEL and took it for a test drive. The truck runs very nice now, pleased it didn’t need new heads. I will either seafoam the intake or use the CRC intake cleaner next week.
