A few mods for the 3.0

I just got a 2000 xlt 4x4. Im looking to add more and in a perfect world better MPG. I had a 99 sonoma and i did cat back exhaust, Intake, underdrive pullies, E-fan, and a computer tune form Wait4meperformance. It gave me a good amount of power and better Mpg. Iv been reading around and some people say it didnt help them at all. Whats up. Im looking for some opinions here.

Thanks
Tony.

The intake is already a cold air intake on Rangers but if you want aftermarket get something that has some sort of box to block the engine bay heat. The K&N intake heat shield sucks. You could do a drop in and remove the air silencer. Also there is the throttle cable mod. For e-fan get a Taurus e fan and wire it up correctly to a quality fan controller. For pulleys and programmer check into Underdog Performace. Modbargains for exhaust and headers.

I'd say the most gain you will see if from a pulley, headers, exhaust and programmer.

Driving habits will affect MPG more than any performance mods you can ever do!

Don't throw your money away!

Oh yeah. I forgot to warn you about that guy. He is right about the driving habits but the mods will also help a bit.

oh ya i hear you there on driving habbits. I think im going to go with just the underdrive crank pulley, have a exhaust made by our local shop here in town. As for programming should i buy a programer or can i send it to someone and have them do it. the programmers seem mighty pricey.

Thanks for all the help guys

Buy the programmer. It's a lot better since your truck wont see any down time and you can do a lot more having the programmer.

The E85 thing I'd stay away from it. What kind of oil is in the vehicle? it should say what it is on the oil cap. If it's 5W20 switch to 10W30 Synthetic and you'll get better mpg's. the E85 FFV made from corn has to be brewed on consistant basis and has been known to destroy an engine if not made correctly. A local distillery here in Virgina that makes the ethanol just found that out a couple of weeks ago. They're now being sued for vehicle repairs because of it. Pay no attention to takeda, he tends to blow everything out of proportion and if he had his way, modifying a vehicle would be a sin. but on occasion he surprises you.

Modding without a tune is basically useless.

Does anybody have a tuner with a manual transmission? I know that the tuners will recalibrate shift points and such on autos, but will I notice a good amount of improvement with the tuner and a manual trans?
