Buying a 99 3.0 4x4-pros/cons

Brother is buying a 99 3.0 4x4 w/ 102,000 miles on it.

Seems like a good solid truck. Only thing I really noticed wrong with it is balljoints, and a small tranny leak at the pan.

I'm not a 3.0 guy. So what are some things I should be aware of and keep an eye on?

Thanks.

The vacumn hubs are the most troublesome part on the truck. The only other thing is the cam syncronizer but unless there is an issue I wouldn't mess with it. It would be a good idea to change all the fluids and do a trans filter if its an automatic. Other common issues are wheel bearings and abs sensors up front and shackles and hangers in the rear as well as e brake cables.

Thanks, John.

Yeah, I played hell with my Expo when it came to the vacuum hubs. But this one seemed to go into 4wd well.

The guy said he only used the 4wd once. But I'm assuming the guy before him used it because it's got some good brush scratches and stuff. It came from Florida.

He's taking it somewhere to get the tranny pan gasket and the door latch fixed. So I'm not gonna mess with the transmission. But I plan on going through everything and changing the balljoints for him since he doesn't know what he's doing.

I had a bunch of 1998-2000 trucks and have had very little problems with them after I fixed the up. They are usually pretty run down when I get them.
