Code 27? Could use some advice.

I put in a new heater core this past weekend and when I put the dash back together, there is a light (the seat belt guy) flashing a code 27 on the dash. I'm sending this from my cell phone so I wasn't able to search for this. Does anyone have any info on this code? I'd like to grab a part while I'm out if that's what's needed. Thanks!

Sounds like a bad P.A.D. switch. Turn your key on and see if the P.A.D. light lights up for 2 seconds. If not you need a new switch. It has to do with your airbag I think.

I think code 27 is the bulb on the passenger air bag switch.

What is P.A.D? If it's the passenger side airbag, I probably need to open that side of the dash back up and make sure I have everything connected properly.

PAD Switch = Passenger Airbag Deactivation Switch (below the HVAC control panel).

Code 2-7 is for incorrect resistance in the PAD Switch indicator light circuit, usually due to a bad bulb or unplugged electrical connector.

The bulb filament in the PAD Switch can easily get broken during handling. A new switch assembly will take care of that problem but it is a VERY expensive solution. If you have an iron and basic soldering skills, it is not hard to replace the just the bulb.

How-to

I have my XM Radio mounted over the switch so I removed the radio receiver last night and checked the bulb. I removed the entire switch (again) and reseated the connection. The bulb is lighting up so I'll see if I get the same code on the dash tonight. Thanks for the info, gang.
