coolant smell, 2000 3.0L engine

After driving and getting out of the truck I get a whiff of coolant odor. Today while painting some liquid electrical tape onto mouse wounds on my tasty wires I saw a glimpse of bright green where the sunshine got onto a small lake under the manifold. You can see a sliver of bright green in the photo. The hoses are relatively new and show no signs of leaking and ditto of the thermostat housing. So should I resort to using "Bar's Leak" or should I start pulling the engine apart? Is there a suspect component I should look at first? The truck starts right up and seems to run real nice, it's not a muscle car and the mpg seems to be about 22. No service lights are on. I live on a dirt road.
