Coolant Temp Sender Difference

This is what Rock Auto shows.

1999 FORD RANGER 3.0L V6 Temperature Sender / Sensor | RockAuto

As far as I can tell, Ford is using the same sensor for both.
One for the temp sensor for the gauge on the dash, and the other to tell the ECM that the engine is cold and it needs to be chocked ?

Both have two connections, but only one of those is used for the gauge in the dash of course.

If you look at the units on that page you will see some with Cone shape end, and others with Cylinder shape end
Cone = Sensor
Cylinder = Sender

Yes, later model senders used 2 wires like the sensors but one of those wires is just a Ground wire, the other goes to the gauge
Sensors 2 wires BOTH run back to the computer(PCM), for 5volt in and .5v to 3v out

Thanks Ron.
Yes, I see now _ duh...

They're actually labeled sender and sensor on the link.
