Just yesterday I drove back from corpus christi and my truck over heated. In the prosses, apperently the extreme pressure caused a small crack on the edge of the radiator. What should I do? It looks to be plastic, so Can i just DIY it and use acetone glue to seal it or should I just buy a new one?

 

i don't think thats how things happened. i think you cracked your radiator which made you overheat. how long did you drive it with it overheating bc you will blow the head gaskets?

 

Go the safe route, and buy a new one. Otherwise, you'll be back in the same predicament.

If he got it hot enough to crack the radiator he has a lot more to worry about than just a head gasket.

 

Definitely get a new one, don't just rig the old one...

 

Well about 15 miles out from my house the truck starts to make a noise similar to a diesel engine. I take the nearest exit and right as Im pulling into a gas station the water temp gauge starts to skyrocket. I shut off the truck and white smoke/steam starts pouring out of the engine bay. I wait for it to cool a bit then I fill it with water and continue home. Today I drove just a couple blocks down to the store and it starts to overheat quickly. It doesnt get to the point of steam, but the scan guage said it was at about 216. I quickly ran to auto zone and picked up some antifreeze and a new themometer because I suspected that the truck over heated so quickly because I might have burnt out the old one. Well I flushed the radiator and installed the new thermometer just to start the engine and see water shooting out of a tiny little crack in the outer side wall of the radiator.

The only good thing that came of this is that I found out the little black thing mounted under my steering wheel is an unconnected fog light switch (which I immediatly reconnected. so now I have working fogs FTW).

Now as you can see, I didnt over heat the engine so bad that I royaly f*cked things up. The only damage is the stupid little crack the size of a thread. But its just big enough to leak a nice 50 drops per minute at normal temps (about 175-185)

 

I would be safe and just buy a new one

buy a new radiator, also replace the cap, it is probably the reason it cracked. My truck overheated and the spring on the cap was rusted so it blew out the side tank

 

Ill look at that. When the guy sold this truck to me the radiator fluid was pure brown and smelled like rust. Thus why my engine bay is now covered in brown. Ive only had this thing for a couple of weeks and I hadnt gotten around to changing the fluids. I guess now Im paying the price. But what pisses me off the most is that when I left it at the stealership for a whole week I told them to do a full sweep on the truck.. And noone thought the rust colored radiator fluid was a bad sign?
