Difference in 3.0s in 99???

I have a 99 ranger that needs a new 3.0 v6. The 7th letter on the vin is V and it was made in 08/99. What year 3.0s can I bolt on or is it just a matter of what is attatched to the top of the motor? i think it is a flex fuel from the vin number, i have no tailgate to look for that leaf symbol. thanks!

98-00 years 3.0's are all the same (basically). The V means it is a flex fuel engine. A U would mean gasoline only. Safest bet is get a 3.0 within those years and get a flex fuel one.

I am going to have a 99 flex fuel motor with 89,000 miles for sale sometime in the future but I am not ready to sell it yet (still in the truck an running/driving) I am getting a 4wd frame ready for the body but still have work to do. Shipping would probably be expensive from here.

If you can get an FFV engine, get it. Use your gasoline injectors and enjoy the increased power and efficiency.
