...that there is no option to replace the mid pipe of a 2008 ranger withour hacking it up? I come form a back ground of new Mustangs and LS1 F-body's. I realize that the Ranger is a completly different beast but, with these other cars you can just buy a new mid-pipe (H pipe, X pipe or Y pipe) and some o2 simulators and voila! all you cats would be gone. Is this just not an option on my truck?

Good idea. I wanna ditch the last two cats(the chunk of pipe between the Y-pipe and the muff). I mean...you can have an exhaust shop make all new piping w/o cats. But if you wanted to cut out the cats and add pipe, it'll be hacked together imo.

 

the ranger wasnt really modded as much as most other brands have been. most people dont waste the time and money on their motors, and just go with a good old fashion SBF.

now on the other hand, my yota, has two options for bolt in ypipes. one with highflow cats and slightly larger pipe, and also one with no cats, and slightly larger pipe.

 

I havent dug around much bit it looks like the manifold dumps directly into the Y pipe...what a pain if you need to replace your cats for w/e reason. Wouldnt you have to pull the engine to get that out without cutting?

 

NO you don't have to pull the engine. Just remove the trans crossmember and unplug the o2 sensors to remove. It has to be done to remove the transmission.(well atleast on my truck and have done it twice thus far)

 

I pulled all my CATs without dropping the engine or removing any pieces its all bolted together.

I just made my own variation, but i am still running CATs. 2 magnaflows.
