Duratec 3.0 Question

Ok. Well the truck is in the shop today so I got take my mom's car (01 Ford Taurus SEL). (Also, as a side note, thanks mom! I owe ya one) Anyway, I was driving around and I've never really noticed but that little motor really packs a punch. So I did some quick research on Wiki and saw that this motor (DOHC Duratec 3.0) is supposedly kickin' out 200 HP and 200 FtLbs of Torque? WOW! My question... has anyone ever really thought about doing a swap of that engine into a Ranger? Or is there something that I'm missing.

It wont work as easy as a 5.0L or any mustang motor for that matter, since the Duratec 30 is a transverse engine designed for FWD cars.. so there is really no tranny available for RWD application. I agree though, that motor sure does pack a punch!

I think the biggest obstacle would be the tranny. It may not be worth it.

I bet it gets better gas milage too. But the 200 HP/ft lbs are at a higher RPM. Ford also likes to have 5 or 6 different v6's in the fleet for whatever reason, but they are slowing reducing the redundancy.

+1 on it being a potent motor...my parents have it in their '01 Mazda MPV (yes, a minivan) and it certainly has much more power than my '91 3.0v6 vulcan.

I test drove the Ford edge with the 3.5 duratec(h). You think the 3.0 moves, this is 265 HP.
