electrical system GONE

yesterday i went muddin/crawlin/whatevers
and as usual, after a couple of puddles, my battery light came on, well this time it got worse. Now there WAS a deep @ss puddle i went into that gave my truck a nice coat of mud with but didnt do much more to my engine compartement as usual. so i drive around and end up cleanin my battery off as usual with some water and dried it up. still on, but it was runnin fine, so ok. about 4 miles down the road i notice my guages go out....i figure OK, i just gotta check my connections and clean off the terminals some more like i did last time. ok, starts up. get about a mile farther.......and its dead. Park it and had to call AAA. get home, still nothing. So tonight i go out there, and hose off the motor hoping for better, nothing.....ive drained my battery...well kinda. so i go jump it with another car and it starts up.....i start revvin the truck some to get some more juice flowin and then my dad b!tches at me sayin i need to un plug the two before somthing "bad" happens....whatever, i do. So i leave the truck running....by then the battery light went away and im back to a normal battery level......

couple of minutes later as im cleanin things up......its starting to die agian...and i know it. i go in, and the battery guage is back down to nothing and i shut the truck off. I try the same process again....kinda mad at my dad at this point too for not letting me leave em connected longer...and NOTHING.

now my truck wont start for ****. still cranks...but only once.

my question is, did the mud possibly kill my alternator? or do i just need to fully charge my battery?

i know i really need to get things checked, but i have work the rest of the week not leaving me with much time to do things besides take the battery out and replace that....

any help would be appreciated...and i now hate mud lol

Yes your alternator is probably shot. The battery is dying because there is nothing charging it. The battery is supplying the ignition and everything else electrical and that isn't going to last long.

Most major auto parts stores can test your alternator.

you got your alternator wet and screwed it up. take some electrical cleaner and clean the connections to see if that helps and if not. the replace your alternator and youll be fine
