Emissions fuel problem
Emissions fuel problem
My ranger has service engine light on and is getting crappy gas mileage. Put that tester on don't have the code it was something about emissions valve hose may fix it..Runs fine, starts fine except when I get fuel it cranks over bit longer before starting and this I think may be odd if I remove gas cap while running it dies.

P1450 Unable to Bleed Up Fuel Tank Vacuum
This is an EVAP system code, it won't effect vehicle operation so its OK to drive it normally
EVAP(evaporative emission vapor control) is an emissions system that prevents gasoline fumes(vapors) in the gas tank from escaping into the air
The computer applies negative air pressure(vacuum) to the gas tank while you are driving vehicle around, the gasoline in the tank sloshes around which creates LOTS of fumes
These fumes are sucked through a charcoal filter and then into the engines intake manifold where they mix with the air in the engine and are then burned in the engine same as gasoline from the fuel injectors
When you shut off the engine a vent valve opens and any remaining fumes will pass thru the charcoal filter allowing equalization of air pressure inside the tank
You may notice, when you stop for refueling, when you remove the gas cap there was a "WHOOOSHING" noise, that was air being sucked INTO the gas tank because of the negative pressure inside from EVAP system working
Most common cause for P1450(if there are no other codes with it) is a bad air pressure sensor on the top of the gas tank or a bad wire for that sensor
This requires access to the top of the gas tank so truck bed must be lifted up or back to gain access , not hard to do but will require 2 people
As a test, remember if you hear the "WHOOSH" when you open gas cap next time you get fuel
Then after truck sits over night(or for 2 or 3 hours) open gas cap, there should be NO "whoosh" because vent valve has opened and relieved negative pressure in the tank
If these things happen then its most likely a faulty pressure sensor reporting negative pressure in the gas tank when there is none
