Engine upgrade

I got a 2000 ranger with the 3l v6, but it's going to need a new block here soon. Out of general curiousity, will I be able to fit a 5 liter v8 in my truck? If not then what would you recommend as far as larger engines go?

Yes, an Explorer 5.0l V8 and transmission will fit, and only way to go.
Also need the 5.0l computer and wiring harness

Ranger 4.0l would be essentially the same amount of work and cost as V8 with less power, the 3.0l trans won't bolt to anything but 3.0l

Most find a rolled or other wise running but damaged 1996 to 2001 V8 explorer and buy it cheap, that way you get all the needed parts

If you want manual trans then you need a manual out of an F-150, Ranger transmissions won't work
All V8s were automatics, well there were a few manuals but super rare
