Was replacing fuel filter on my ranger because previous owner had the truck sitting for a while. Went to disconnect the connector with the separator and couldn't, I ended up breaking it on accident. Does anyone know if these are replaceable? Or should i just buy the whole line?
Its the connector on the left. Its the line directly from the gas tank to the fuel filter. Inside the protective plastic tubing is a braided line. I found the dorman 800-791 to be similar but i dont even know the fuel line diameter and if i can even disconnect the old connector. Any tips, comments or suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance
Rangers all used nylon 5/16" fuel line
But they used 2 sizes of connectors, 5/16" and 3/8"
The pump to filter line should have 3/8" connectors
Return line 5/16" connector
You will probably have to make one, or find one at wrecking yard that's long enough
Once you cut the bad connector off the line may not be long enough to connect to filter
Dorman makes repair kits with 3/8 connector and a short hose attached and you could splice that to the cut off end of the old hose
The braided part is not for internal pressure, it is for external protection, i.e. road debris or stray wrench strikes, lol
You heat up nylon fuel line with HOT water or heat gun, it's a fuel line to no "flames", lol
When nylon hose is Hot you can slide in a new connector(use gloves) and the nylon will be soft enough to expand a bit to do that, when it cools it makes a very tight seal
I appreciate the write up man, you gave me everything I need to know. I wish it was just the old hose clamps like in my mustang. I'll see if i can just get the whole line from the junkyard if theres another ranger there. Thanks!
Well clamps are OK for up to 10-20psi, but at 30+ psi they can be "iffy"
Your tire has 30psi and holds up 1,000+ pounds of vehicle, so 30psi is quite a bit of pressure, putting a hose clamp on tires valve stem would work but would you trust it, lol
With fuel injection its best to used pre-made fittings/hoses or threaded fittings
