Fuel pump suddenly stopped while straight wired
My fuel relay burnt out the other day so while I was waiting on the new to come in I straight wired it. Wired it to go to work and it cut on and then stopped I thought I would hear it struggle or something I dont think both pumps broke?? Plz help
Welcome to the forum
What YEAR Ranger??
Both pumps?
so a 1986-1988 Ranger?
Fuel pump relay may have "blown" because a pump was drawing too many AMPS
You "hot wired" fuel pump pump power, what size fuse did you use?
And how did you wire it, jump in the relay's green base?

the green fuel pump relay blew days prior so I thought about jumping a wire on the green base or plug for the relay it worled for a few days the pump cuts on full and when I turned the truck off its still pumping till I pull the wire. I put the wire in amd it cut on them stopped (like a relay would prime) so i tried to crank but nothing. Still waiting on the right relay but wiring doesn't work now
What YEAR?
You "thought about jumper in relay base"??????
And yes if you did use a jumper in the base fuel pump would be on all the time, thats the point of having a relay, so pump can be turned off when key is off
So what did you do?
Explain the wiring and fuse protection
Test green base for 12volts with key OFF
If no 12volts then fusible link or fuse is blown
Depending on the YEAR the fuel pump power will be from a fusible link, a short wire that will separate, blow, if too many amps are passed thru it
The fusible link will be attached to the starter relay(solenoid) post, with the positive battery cable
There will be several fusible links on that one post, for alternator, and other relays
This post is the main power distribution for the truck
