Fuse #9 blowing
Fuse #9 blowing
Hello I have 98 Ranger 3.0 4x4 5speed when I start it will run all day if sitting as soon as you put in gear and release clutch and accelerate slightly it will blow fuse 9 which is fuel and security replace fuse and will sit and run no issues accelerate all you want press clutch and release all you want as soon as in gear to drive and release clutch slightly and accelerate will shoot fuse any help will be greatly appreciated
Welcome to the forum
Fuse #9 in engine bay fuse box is for fuel pump power and Keyless entry power(RAP module), as you said
Fuse #9 in Cab Fuse box is for brake pedal switch
If it was brake pedal switch I could see a connection
RAP module is usually located behind drivers seat and then behind the plastic panel, so its wiring will run by the clutch/brake pedal assembly and then into drivers kick panel and down along drivers door to the back of cab
Its reads like vehicle movement causes it, could be the toque of the engine moving in engine bay under load, so bare wire somewhere thats shorting to ground, could be at the gas tank, under the carpet, in the engine bay
You can use a volt and then ohm meter at Fuse 9 to see if you can find it
Pull fuse, test which slot of the fuse plug has 12volts, the OTHER SLOT is the one you want to test with OHM Meter to Ground
Since fuel pump is NOT connected because its relay is open only the RAP Module will be connected
You should see above 10 ohms
Move wires in the engine bay around, see if OHMs drop at all, 0 ohms is a dead short to ground, but OHMs shouldn't change at all
Need to get a helper in the cab to reach under dash and move wires around
And have RAP module exposed, and move it around
If RAP module wiring checks out then you will need to move on to fuel pump
In passenger side footwell under glove box on the firewall will be the inertia switch, its the 12v power wire for fuel pump
Fuse 9 is still OUT, put ohm meter on either inertia switch wire and to a good ground, should see about 6-10 ohms, thats the pump's motor
Do the same wire moving
Rock the truck side to side and forward and back
