my truck died

Ok so Saturday I was pulling out of the gas station and heading for the stop sign 60 feet away about 30 feet away my truck starts to die. I have a 1999 Mazda b3000 manual. And when I got to the stop sign it died. I tried starting it and it started for about 5 seconds then died again I had to push it to a parking spot on the side of the road. I then tried to start it and it would start for 2 to 3 seconds then the rpms would drop slowly and it would just die. If you gave it gas it would kill it faster I have no clue what is wrong with it and I checked the fuel filter and it had good flow so not that. The truck was running fine 2 minutes before I left the gas station. Pleas can some one help me thanks AND NO I DID NOT PUT DIESEL IN IT that was the first thing my step dad asked me and just about everyother person.

Check your battery 'eye' if you have one.. sounds like it wasnt getting any power from the alternator to keep the engine running- check all connections. Other than that, IAC, or MAF?

no the check engine light is not on. i dont think its battery just because of the way it was acking it would turn over and run fine for a few seconds its like the engine is starving for fuel or air im not sure. i will check that though. thanks im having it towed tomorrow and i hope its a quick fix like a sensor or something. Knock on wood.

If you just filled up, I'd suspect a fuel pump. Flow is important but it's all about pressure. Put a fuel pressure gauge on it at the service port on the fuel rail. If you don't have one or can't get one pick up a can of throttle body cleaner and spray it in the intake while someone turns the key. That's how I get them to run into the shop at work.

Do exactly what he says.....

If its fual, spray some carb cleaner / ether......in the intake....If it starts there is something wrong with the fuel.....

It wont fix the problem but it will tell you what the problem is.....

Get a fuel gauge and put it on the fuel rail (on the shrator valve) to see what kind of PSI your pump is pumping out....

I would let the gas station know, where you completely on empty when you filled up? Maybe your filter got clogged or something

Rocky

Personally i dont think it has anything to do with the battery / ALT because if it were either of those it wouldnt crank or crank slow and click....
He wouldnt have any lights or power, and he says its cranking over fine...So its either spark, fuel, or air...

Check all your vaccum hoses. One lesson from Seafoam, something a LOT like this will happen if you forget to connect a hose :D

check your intake tube. i had a car in at the shop once and it was doing the same thing. you start it and it dies, give it gas and dies quicker. the simple cause was the intake arm was knocked loose while being serviced. make sure the intake arm is connected.

If it starts to die, and pressing the gas pedal accelerates the stalling, then my guess is the amount of throttle DOES have an effect of the truck running.

If changing the amount of throttle makes a difference, then it might be a fuel delivery issue. I second what many other people here are saying.

The other thing I can think of is spark: I know spark plugs usually don't die for (pretty much) the life of the car, but if you're not getting spark, it won't run.

Good luck with the mechanics...I hope they can fix it.

Ok so we get some snow on Sunday more on Monday and today all the snow is still around with lots of ice. The tow truck companies all say they cant tow it till things calm down because on Monday they were on emergency call only. Today they were only working for the state patrol and a bunch of BS so I tell my mom im gana tow it with a friend. I go down to my truck and just before I hook it all up I try it for some odd reason and it STARTS. my friend follows me to the shop but every time I came to a stop sign it stumbled and would almost die I thought it was going to die on me but it didn’t the shop told me it would be a few days because they are so swamped from all the ****y *** drivers that **** their cars upin the snow. but its getting fixed
