Guys with Screamin Demon coil packs need you're input!

Hey guys I am lookin to get a screamin demon coil pack for my 99 ranger 3.0 and wondered if you guys with this thing have noticed a difference in power or performance with it? $100 for one does not sound like a bad price at all but I just don't know if it will help much. Thanks in advance!

yeah, when done with plugs and wires, you will get a little better pickup, not blazing fast, but a small, noticeable increase.

I have been thinking about picking one up as well. I just did plugs and wires last year, but I have never changed my coil pack and the truck is going on 200,000 kms.

I gained at least 1 horsepower, and at least 7 miles per gallon!

Actually, I did notice that it had a little more oomph.. but thats because I changed wires plugs, and coilpack all at the same time - so it was a good upgrade//maintenance :-D

Well looks like I'm gonna give it a go then! What would be some good wires to use with it? And should I stick with the Motorcraft plugs or are you guys running something else?

Oh also are there any other small inexpensive mods you guys can think of to do to gain any more power? I know that a combo of things help and so far I have the airbox mod with new filter, going to do a full tune up on her in a couple months and am going to have the clutch replaced since the throw out bearing is shot and going with a Spec Stage 2+ kit with Royal Purple in the transmission and diff and plan on putting a small exhaust on it but don't know the best way to run it for power gains. Usually just dump them under the cab.

Stick with motorcraft. I'm running bosch spark plug wires and no complaints there.

Probably will. Only thing that seems to be a sure fire winner.

And I have also heard that the new coil pack will allow you to gap the plugs more which is better for performance. Has anyone heard of/done this? If so what do you gap them to?

Yeah, the destructions that come with the coil say to gap to .065 to see the most performance gains. I didn't have .065 on my wire-type spark plug gage, so I gapped at .060, using Motorcraft Plats and the wires from Wayne at Underdog-Performance.

I originally gapped at .044, but then my dad read the sheet, and told me the .065 thing, so I had to take them out and re-gap lol. So remember: HASTE MAKES WASTE!!!

Hahaha well thanks for the heads up! Did you feel any noticeable increase in power with the new wires and plugs gapped higher? What about gas mileage? Thanks again!

I'm just getting my truck back on the road after it sitting since the first of the year. It needed a slave cyl. but I had alternative transportation.
With 125K on it , it just dropped #2 coil. While pulling the plugs I checked the gap and they all measured .080. Prior to the coil failing the engine ran fine with the stock coil and FACTORY plugs.Mileage was around 25mpg.
So IMHO the factory coil will run OK even with the plugs gapped at .060 , the same as the screamin demon.
I haven't checked the price for the screamin demon , but I need the truck tomorrow so I guess NAPA gets to soak me $114 + tax.
