i've recently noticed a new noise coming from my engine. it started occuring after i installed a new cold air intake. it sounds almost like a high screechy whistling noise, kinda like nails on a chalkboard. its not very loud at all, you have to listen for it. it happens on acceleration, and it seems to happen on all my tunes, whether its the performance tune with advanced timing, or the nitrous tune with retarded timing.

am i hearing pinging? it DEFINITELY doesnt sound like marbles in a tin can, rocks, or anything even close to what i generally hear described as ping.

 

Your hearing the cold air intake sucking in the air.

 

Yep.....and I love that sound. Mine has a nice groan to it now after installing my MAC intake.

Pinging is a knock noise.

 

Pinging will sound like a diesle. You hear the air squeezing past the TB probably.

 

seems to me you are hearing the air getting sucked into the new filter, in my experience pinging sounds more like you have bee bees in you cylinders

 

nope... this definitely doesnt sound like beebees or anything like that... just a metallic kinda whistle. reminds me almost of brake squeal.

i also notice that i don't hear it at WOT. i only hear it at between 50-75% throttle.

 

my mac does the same thing at the same power range... usually like 2k i hear it and if it shifts to soon to 4th and im at like 1500 i hear it...

 

Could also be your IAC Valve... it whistles when it is going out.

 

i think i get the same noise aswell.. i installed a k&n intake kit on my truck.. it doesnt do it all the time though.. but when accelerating i can hear it or when driving slow... when i come to a stop it goes away.. i had a feeling it was the intake but not 100% sure..

 

yup.. its your intake.. mine does this as well

 

my 07 did it when I had the silencer out... so your fine man...

 

I JUST installed my K&N. I'm almost positive I know what you're talking about and I hear the same thing.
