HELP!! No ignition..

Ok, So I am completely new to rangers. I recently bought a 93 ranger with the 3.0L V6, meant as a project, but I may have got into more than I wanted....the guy that had it before me said something happened one night and the plug wires melted and the plug wires were actually arching off the block, then shortly after it died, and didnt start again. It cranks and has fuel, but no spark. I checked to make sure the coil had power, it has power, distributor has power, put new plug wires on, and no spark out of the coil still....Any ideas anyone?? I am really at a loss here and would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance!

Ok, well, tore it down tonight, and found out that the drive gear for the distributor was pretty much flattened with pieces broken off as well.....after searching a bit found out its a common problem for these? Also, distributor shaft had alot of play in it and spun very easily, and caught in some places a bit....anyone else knew this was common? Ways to prevent it in the future??

Search the forum for Cam Syncro
It also drives the oil pump.
