That is great mileage. Mine has an automatic and I get about 20 highway when i drive like an old man, and about 17 city, about 18.8 overall. I think changig my synchronizer may improve things. It certainly has upped the power. Is your 99 a stick? If not, I need to drive older or something.

$800 is a great price to pay for anything running these days lol. And Joe, my 99 4wd is a stick. I actually think i get better gas mileage when I stopped cruising around town in 5th gear. Sure it was only at 1,500 RPM's but it would put more strain on the motor trying to push the power through the transmission and out to the wheels with it floored in 5th rather than just light footing it in 4th up a slight incline. It's all in the way you drive and the climate plays a big part too. I am more than satisfied with my mileage! Hearing all these guys say they get 15-18mpg in their's and never hearing about one breaking 20 made me worried to buy a 3.0 4wd but I am VERY happy I did!!! I love this truck! $1,300 and she gets me where I need to go!

I seem to get about avg. mileage for a 4x4 with an automatic. Nothing makes as much difference in MPG as the way I drive. Maintenance helps but the way you drive makes the most difference. You've made me curious about turning off the overdrive. I may try it just for poop and giggles. $1300 is a nice price too. Mine was $4500 but that was 6 years and 85,000 miles ago.
Lucky that $800 truck didn't get turned in for $4500. Bastards are siphoning off my pool of vehicles. But on topic: I love my 3.0

That 3.5 will be sweet. That would be a sick Ranger.

there is a bore & Stroke kit will make your 3.0 a 3.3 then slap on some more mods and you'll have a 3.5L, lol.

3.0L = Decent on gas, not very fast. But at least it's not a pain in the ***.

That's a great story on the 3.0. I just got my 2005 with a 3.0 and wondered how good it was. Well, you said it just right.....goes, and goes, and goes!

I bought my Ranger this summer, so haven't had it long, but no
complaints here. It was chirping when I brought it home at 55K,
but a cam synchro solved that. If that's the only major problem,
then we're lucky to have an engine available that's so durable.

Power is no problem either, with 4.10 gears. After installing
a high-flow air filter and cat-back exhaust, I can blow the doors
off every ricer in town and make them go running home to their
mamas crying like little girls......

Careful with those engines guys! They don't make the 3.0 anymore.
