That's got to be a bogus report. It was probably written by K&N. There's a lot of good oil filters out there, with anti drain back valves that work. Here's a few: Purolator Pure One, WIX (NAPA Gold is the same thing), AC Delco Duraguard, AC Delco Ultraguard Gold, Mobil 1, Motorcraft, and Purolator Premium Plus.

The guys at the following website think that the first two listed above are two of the best out there (and I recommend the site to you all -- lotta good stuff on it):

A lot of guys on that site are going 7,000-15,000 miles between oil changes using synthetic oil, AND using the same filter during that period. They've got tests showing that both the oil and the filter held up just fine. I recently changed the oil in my 03 Ranger and my wife's 03 Subaru, after running each for 10,000 mi. on Mobil 1 synthetic oil. The Ranger had a Purolator Pure One filter and the Forester had a Napa Gold (which is the same as a WIX) filter on during that 10,000 miles. I cut each filter open after changing the oil and both filters were in excellent condition and clearly still filtering adequately.
