misfire under hard accel.

Good morning all, i recently did the air box mod and added a k&n filter. Seems it sounds better but under hard accel I get a popping sound from the intake like a backfire. And it seems like its slow to accel. well its always been slow. flooring it vs just 3/4 throttle produces the same results no sense in flooring it and making all that noise if it dont push.. next week ill get some plugs and wires. I have the tourqe app and a blutooth module i scanned it for codes but nothing showed up. i was sure that would of cause a code to pop up.
any ides?

check and clean your MAF too. i've had a misfire under load, but not idle with a bad MAF before.

I've had a similar issue with mine. I've cleaned the MAF sensor and replaced all plugs and wires. For me it started when I modified the intake (just cut up the stock airbox) which sounds similar to your experience. I'm wondering if it's an airflow problem, like maybe the MAF can't handle extra air, or since there is more air getting in it needs to get out through a less restrictive exhaust system... I'll be working on mine the next couple of weeks, I'll let you know if I figure it out. If anyone else has figured it out, please enlighten me!

I have a compression tester I can fiddle with next week. although im strapped for cash til the first. so replacing plugs and coil packs are going to have to wait, ill keep the forum updated. I will try and pull the plugs and see how they look. Ive heard if you pressurize the cyl with compressed air you should hear it hissing if there was a leak. the piston in question must be at tdc and listen for hisses through the oil fill for leaks in the rings, hiss in the tail pipe for an exhause valve, hiss in the throttle body if its an intake valve and hiss in the rad if its a head gasket issue. and you can use a compression tester hose to pressurize the cyl but you must remove the shrader valve from the tip so it can flow air. im going to play with this next week.

http://youtu.be/SwgtfkwsIaE?hd=1 this is a link to a youtube video of the sound in action its pretty prominent. let me know what you guys think.

one thing i will try is to go back to the paper filter and try it for a week, ive read here a couple of times that the 3.0 doesn't fair well with the extra flow and oil filters. I guess the paper filter will tell me if this is true or not.

Lazo: I've asked around and it does seem like these 3.0s have a problem with intake/exhaust mods. They tend to shudder under acceleration and idle funny, but I watched that vid and that does not sound healthy! I'd be interested to know what happens after the paper filter is put back in.

ok guys I went sat and purchased some motorcraft plugs. And it looks like it solved the problem the poping sound is gone and the power surges as well. feels like it regained power back from the autolites it had. The plugs it had didnt look bad. strange... Well at least it fixed it. Now the intake mod sounds nice. nice deep growl and not offensive and "ricer" like. Downside freakin 5 bux a plug! damn! Wires are next, just waiting go get some more mough-lah. Anybody have any ideas which wire set to get?

one more question. How do i add Fixed to the title of the post? That way when people see the title know there is a fix.

Usually we just let the thread die quietly and not post to it anymore.
