Morse code noise from ABS box behind radio. 99 ranger 3.0 automatic
My 99 Ranger randomly will do a no crank as if a bad battery. The part number on the box says its a ABS box. It is to the right of the radio behind dash starts a morse code noise with key in ignition switch. The code noise stops if you try to crank . Pull key out of ignition switch and the code noise starts again and keeps going. If I take a battery terminal cable off and wait a minute and put cable back on. The truck starts like nothing is wrong with it.
Got a pic of the component in question? The cranking system on all 1999 3.0 equipped Rangers includes a chipped key and a passive antitheft (PATS) module. That module is located "behind RH side of dash" according to my schematic. The antitheft module supplies a ground circuit to the starter relay (which is under the hood in the relay box) allowing the starter motor to operate.
The PATS module has a 16 pin connector.
Four cylinder Rangers didn't have PATS, at least not for 1999.
