My 86 has no power it falls fat on it's face .

I would use a vacuum gauge, still the best tool around for gasoline engines, and only $20, way better than a code reader, lol.
Engine is a self powered air pump, and best way to check any pump is with a pressure gauge

expect 17-21" of vacuum at idle, if its lower then there's the lack of power, need to find out why its low
Do the blocked exhaust test, limited exhaust flow robs power, if the old air(exhaust) can't get out, then the new air(with gasoline) can't come in
Make sure the SPOUT connector got put back in after you timed the distributor, SPOUT is the Vacuum Advance on computer controlled ignitions, engine would be very sluggish without "vacuum advance"
