New rear main seal leak

Changed the rear main

Put engine in with no oil. Except what was in the short block.

Engines in a starts very slow drip.....of.....old oil.

Keep in mind this engine had no oil in the pan, heads, lifters.....just oil in the galleys and bearings.

I filled the pan with new oil and the engine started a fast drip. Like it wasn't sealing at all.

The rear main went in true.

I drove the truck all over town.....it still leaked.

It also has a chirping sound. I did not replace the synch or the gasket.

Did you check the crankshaft for a scratch?
Was it leaking before pulling the engine?

A small scratch on crank can leak quite a bit.
You can get sleeved main seals if that happens

It was the fel pro gasket leaking around the rear main housing.
The second gasket they gave me had the same form so I put a lot of rtv all over the gasket.
The crank does have a groove......but I put the seal right behind it. So it has no sealing issues.

I like to put gaskets on dry but more often than not they leak.
With using rtv to glue it on Ive not had one leak.

Once again......China has wasted a lot of my time with trash parts. I had to pull the engine back out right after a complete install. And re install it. This fel pro oil pan gasket isn't good...get a dealer gasket. Even with the rtv it doesn't fit well. It looks like it does but when tightened down with the correct torque it leaves gaps and squeezes the gaskets out. If you use the tabs to place it....it won't come out right.
But the dealer has to have their 400% mark up so it's always tempting to buy for $45 aftermarket as opposed to a $200 dealer item. You still don't always get what you paid for.

Power steering pump bearing just went out as well....the new duralast pump is stupid loud. Bled well and clean Mercon v and a quart of Lucas.
However.....I did not pre bleed the pump. I've never had to with a Saginaw.
Going to the yards to find a Saginaw pump off of an econline van if there is one.
I don't think the lack of pre bleed mattered that much. I think it's just low quality.
I also have another bearing going out somewhere.....I think it's the ac compressor

How does ford sell a truck with steering that loud. I would never buy something that annoying on purpose. And they did it for 30 years......
