rear main seal still leaks :-(

Had my truck in the dealer for the rear main seal and after they screwed up the clutch i finaly got it back after two weeks. i went under there today and the stupid thing is leaking in a different spot. I'm thinking maybe i should make sure the bolts are tight enough. Does someone have the torque spec for the two bolts on the bottom going from the tranny to the motor?

also, they fixed the clutch cuz they broke the disconect and apparently the master cyl. was leaking put i never saw a drop in fluid level.

The clutch is alot different then it used to be . Now , if you put it to the floor and let it out it begins to engage about an inch off the floor. Before, the clutch started to engaged when the pedal was almost all the way out . i used to only put the clutch in like 1/2 or 1/4 of the way to shift , now it has to go to the floor. How is it supposed to be?

Im disappointed in fords workmanship. You can't trust anyone with your truck, not even the dealer.

Check your PCV valve. If it is not functioning you could be building pressure in the engine and forcing oil out the seal. Do a quick search here or on explorerforums.com or go to www.advancedauto.com and you should be able to find out plenty on the PCV valve.

ok I tried to find the pcv valve . I looked in the haynes manual and it says ontop of valve cover by the brake booster pump. The picture is bad but clearly the engine bay on my truck is alot different then the pics.

can someone tell me right where its located ? a pic would be great .

If the rear main is leaking, I'd take it back to the dealer!

there is a tube that goes from your air intake tube to the valve cover. That tube connects to the pcv valve. pull the tube out of the valve cover. The pcv will come out with it. Just a small deal that should rattle if you shake it.

i took it back to the dealer AGAIN and they replaced the rear main seal for the second time. Then i got a call and they said they parked it in the parking lot and when they moved it there was a big puddle of oil under it . It leaks worse then before .

so now it will have to be done a 3rd time.

they said an engineer was coming to look at another truck and would take a look at mine before they did it again . I dunno if thats just BS or not.

The PCV is no longer the easy change it once was. EPA now requires "positive retention" of the PCV, so it doesn't just pull out of a grommet in the valve cover like they used to.

Look on the back of the DS 4.0L valve cover and you will find a black plastic valve with a large vapor line to the center and a u-shaped heater tube around its body - this prevents ice formation in cold weather. The heater tube is a PITA to remove because it has two coolant lines attached to it using constant tension clamps. After you get all of that off, the PCV unscrews about a third of a turn to release.
