Oil leak
Oil leak
Driving my 99 3.0 V6 suddenly oil pressure gage went crazy, truck died, popped clutch and sputtered but drove a block away to home, I pulled into my parking spot and turned it off. Got out and there was a huge puddle of oil under it. Underneath I tried to determine the location, but oil was everywhere so I cleaned it up, added a quart of oil and had someone start it while I watched. Instantly oil gushed and there were flames! Right above the starter. Turned it off of course and I cannot see up there but it is running down on top of the smaller cylinder of the starter. All the oil drained back out, so this is not a slow leak it just happened. When I put that quart of oil in, it didn't leak, not until it was started. Its to high and to the left for rear main seal, and the top of the engine, from the heads on up, is clean... what's that leave? Oil pan gasket? Cam plug? What's going to shoot out that much oil, and what would cause flames? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Figured it out
Nevermind, figured it out. Freeze plug leaking. Coupled with exhaust leak right at the header. Amazing how much you can see when you take off the wheel and the fender liner... Still not sure why the fire but I will fix those and go from there.
Freeze plug would leak coolant, not oil. I'm with supercab. Check your oil filter gasket. You might have two in place, if the old one stayed on the engine when a new filter was installed. Two gaskets will blow out leaking massive amounts of oil.
