Oil Pump Intermediate Shaft

This is the shaft that drives the oil pump from the synchronizer.
The end of it appears to be permanently stuck in the old oil pump and doesn't want to come out. (I'm guessing there is a one way keeper in there)
Is there a trick on how to get it out ?
Melling makes one, part #IS129, which I will check at the auto parts store tomorrow, but Melling's web site doesn't even list the part.

I suppose I could take a Dremel tool and destroy the old pump and cut the shaft out...
Thanks for looking.

EDIT:
Found it; looks like if I give the old pump a good whack with a hammer it should come out.

I'll just answer my own thread.
The old shaft just tapped out with a light tap with a hammer.
First time around the snap ring stayed in the oil pump.
With a few tries in and out, the snap ring came out with the shaft.

The snap ring is a safety feature, it keeps the shaft in place when removing the distributor/synchronizer.
In the past, with out the snap ring, the shaft would stick in the distributor/synchronizer.
It would stay in there just long enough only to drop into the oil pan.

In some cases one would find the snap ring missing.
This happens after an oil pump change when the ring stays inside the old pump.
The guy working on his truck would simply re-use the old shaft with out the ring in place.

I just bought a new shaft, it was only 12.00 bucks from the auto parts store.
It's a Melling shaft too, so I know it will fit properly in the Melling pump.

I probably could have re-used the old shaft, but I wasn't going gripe about a 12 dollar part on a fresh engine rebuild.
