is it pinging?
is it pinging?
I have a 99 ranger stepside
3.0 v6 flexfuel
When going uphill or anytime i try to accelerate when Im already moving I get a sound that I think sounds like a diesel engine and the engine is very slow to respond.
But every time I read about dieseling people are talking about trucks continuing to run after they are shut off.
So now I am wondering if this sound I hear is what is called pinging.
I run 87 and have read about running seafoam.
What do you think?

Run some seafoam. It wouldnt hurt. Im not sure about your 99 but i ran seafoam straight into the intake (vacuum line off of brake booster) I also have a 4.0, so i dont know.
Pull the intake hose off throttle body and put a rock or have someone hold the accelerator peddle down.Do this with truck off.Squirt the flap real good and clean it with a rag and a tooth brush if you like.Squirt at least half the can in all around the intake and let soak afew minutes.Start it up and it will smoke really bad for a while. When smoke dies down drive on street kind of agressivly for a bit to get the rest f smoke out.Pinging should be really reduced or gone now.If you like yuou can put the rest of can in and do it again.Really helps alot.
