Check the accordion boot on the steering rack that is near the front wheels. It may be cut/torn.

is this boot about 3-4" in diameter?

does fluid flow through this boot?

After you say boot a few times, it starts to lose it's meaning....boot.

Have you recently forced the steering wheel to turn with the engine shut off ?
The PS doesn't like that and will 'burp' fluid when the engine is started.

The rubber boots on the steering rack are there to keep dust and dirt out, NOT to keep PS fluid in. If there is PS fluid leaking from the boots, the seals in the steering rack need replacing, or the entire rack.

a temp remedy.....Prestone Stop Leak for power steering. My lil brothers ranger has an odd leakage coming from the passenger side boot. His truck only has 40k on it, and has been doing this since about 20k. He put some of that Stop Leak in it and hasn't had an issue since.

my neighbor got down underneath the truck and said my "gear box" is leaking.

does the gear box have another name on these trucks?

"steering box" is another name for it. It is what your steering wheel shaft goes into, then a series of gears inside go to a stud on to which a pitman arm mounts, and your steering components then mount to that.

Unless your neighbor is talking about the transmission?

Ayers......he doesn't have a rack & pinion.
