ranger engine question.

ranger engine question.
i have a 2000 ranger xlt 3ltr v-6. normally i turn the key and it fires right up in 1 or 2 seconds. not so now, it takes about 4 or 5 seconds. also it started missing but only when im accelerating. if im at a idle and rev it up it is fine or when im cruising it is fine also. i do all my own repair work but i need a good starting point. also there is no check engine light on either. thank you.

Cycle the key on and off 3 times before trying to start, see if it fires up faster
The Ranger fuel pump only runs for 2 seconds with key on, and thats an increase of 10psi fuel pressure
Your 2000 runs 55psi fuel pressure, after you shut off key it should hold about 30-40psi pressure for months, but pressure can leak back into the gas tank
So when you try to start it its only 10psi, cycling key 3 times builds it back up to 30psi
This is just a test to see if low pressure is the issue on start up
1999-2001 3.0l Rangers did have factory coil pack issues, bad batch, so not unreasonable to get a new coil pack, check current coil pack for cracks
Also have a look at the spark plugs, they do wear out and that's more noticeable under load, acceleration, also cold start, need a hotter spark to ignite cold air/fuel mix
And assuming no CEL(check engine light) so no codes present
