Short trips, trouble starting
When my 1992 Ranger XLT 3.0 sits for a long time (a hour or longer) it fires right up. Often, when I make short trips like drive to the store a few blocks away and spend a little time in the store, I come back out and it doesn’t want to start. I have to push on the gas pedal to get it to fire. When I just turn the key, it sounds like it’s not getting fuel. After it starts it runs fine. Any ideas???
sounds like it could be the fuel regulator should be on the fuel rail with a vacuum line. pull vacuum like and check for the smell of gas. if so the regulator diaphragm is leaking. need to replace it.
Inspect the regulator for fuel leaks, cracks, or other visible damage.
Vacuum Line Issues: Check for cracks or poor connections if your fuel pressure regulator uses a vacuum line. A faulty vacuum line can mimic regulator failure.
Fuel Odors: Smell for gasoline in the vacuum line.
