So slow...somethin wrong?

Or is it just the gay 3.0L? I have a stickshift 3.73 gearing extended cab on 31's, and its so slow on the freeway. I have to stay in 4th to get to 85, and when i put it in 5th itll like lose speed, or barely hold what its at. Could there be somethin wrong or is it just supposed to be so dang slow? Ive had mud in my intake and stuff before, could that mess it up? I need to seriously make this thing faster, its dangeriously slow i think.

Evan

Me too...I'm the same way...can't hold my OD for my lift on the HWY after 70.

It seems like it shifts too early, etc.

Try a bama, efan, intake, exhaust, pullies.

I did just efan and pullies, and it is a LOT better, but not anywhere near stock gearing...it never will be

3.0's are sad, i cry.

i need a 4.0L. actually i wanna get this 96 powerstroke diesel f-250 with like 30k miles a winch and lift, but i dont think Aramco is ready to get rid of it yet.

anyways, what are some of the cheapest mods thatll help me go faster? i really need to do somethin. my mom will prolly help pay or will pay for most cause she thinks the truck is dangerously slow as well. Im also saving up for audio stuff right now so its a bummer when i have to pay to make my truck go a decent speed. What yall think i should get?

31s are part of the reason. 3.73s are part of the reason. and the 3.0 is part of the reason. I've got the exact thing. 31's, 3.73's and the 3.slow, Top speed is about 85 in 5th.......downhill.

i have no problem going 85 in mine with 31's though i do have 4.10 gears and a manual tranny but the tranny shouldnt make that much of a difference... i think if you got new gears you would be a little better at that speed since with 3.73 gears and 31's your actual gear ratio is 3.37... right now with 31's my ratio is 3.70 which is close to a stock ratio and just fine with me however after i get my 33's my 4.10 will go to a 3.48 which is managable for my needs but whenever i upgrade to a locker i will get new gears in the 4.56 range to bring it back to the actual ratio of 4.10... all of these calculations assume a stock tire size of 28 inches

and another thing you need to remember is that you are going FASTER than your speedo is telling you with the larger tires unless you have a programmer and fixed your speedo

have you changed your plugs and wires before? while the root of your problem is the gears doing preventive maintaince such as changeing all of your fluids cant hurt... dont be too hard on your little 3.0 since it will still be running at 300,000 miles while the 4.0 wont make it that long

My truck seems to be even more powerful when i put bigger tires on.. Weird but i kind of like my truck more now, its not a supercharged mustang or anything but it gets the job done. If its the top end speed you don't like, i dont think Lower Gears are going to help with that am i wrong ? I would consider if you havent already try maybe a cold air intake ? Good Luck.

You problem is that you have a 3.0.. lol. How many miles are you at? You may want to replace your air filter and spark plugs. Why do you need to go 85 anyways? That is pushing the limits of your drivetrain and I think the tires too. I know BFG A/Ts aren't really made for high speeds. I can't offer any more insight than anyone else, but I can perhaps remind you that you do drive a truck and not a sports car :)
