Stock Oil Sender Question (Bob?)

There may only be a select few who actually know the answer to this (bob), but I still will ask publicly.

To start off, I have an electrical gauge sender, not a mechanical. My stock sender is mechanical also (3.0), so is there a way that I could tap off of the aftermarket sender so that the stock sender works? For some reason I'm hearing weird noises around 3k rpms when right before I messed with it, I wasn't hearing anything. I'd like to put it back, but I don't want to have to mess with a T fitting.

It sounds like I'm being lazy, but for the time being I have 0 time. I work too much.

Anyways, it looks like there were two wires coming out of it, which one does what job? Can I tap one wire onto the aftermarket wire? Can it be done? I don't see why???

Thanks in advance!!!!

That's what I did on my 3.0. I piped in a "T" and put the stock sender (which is nothing more than a switch) and an electrical true gauge sender for my pillar pod gauge.

You can't tap the aftermarket system for the stock one properly in a later truck. In older trucks you could modify a resistor in the dash gauges and switch to a true sender.

I don't know what you mean "mechanical". No Rangers come with mechanical senders -- they are all electrical. However, the stock 3.0 is just a switch (as are all modern Rangers) rendering our "oil gauge" really just a fancy idiot light.

The best bet is an aftermarket gauge and sender and your aftermarket one on a "T". I have pictures of mine on here somewhere, I'll find them.

This topic is how I did mine. You don't have many options as there is no single sender that will do that for you. Furthermore, paralleling your existing gauge dumps more current into the aftermarket sender and will cause it to misread.

You have to go down the page to see pics of my rube-goldberg t-fitting, lol...

Haha, awesome! Thank you once again Mr. Griggs

I thought there would be some way to tap into the gauge. I just don't feel like doing a t fitting now...maybe I'll fix it one day. It's just a dummy gauge anyways!!!

By the mechanical gauge thing, I was meaning that some people use a mechanical oil gauge, I have electronic on both ends.

You weren't joking, there was about 0 room to work down there. I had to be pretty much a contortionist to get it to work!!!

Know of anywhere to buy a stock sender? I think I broke my old one!!!

Ok, I did a really bad thing and just took out the bulbs on my ABS and on my check gauge light. They were both annoying the crap outta me!!!

Anyways, gauge cluster looks really nice now :)

As for the dead gauge, I'll live with it for now, it's a dummy gauge anyways!!!
