Trying to find a computer
Trying to find a computer
I purchased my son a 93 ranger 4x a few months ago that needed some work. So got everything almost finished and fired it up and it's not running on all cylinder com to find out it has the wrong year model computer in it. Spoke with a local dealership and got the correct computer number but cant find one anywhere. The computer I'm looking for is a f37z 12a650 cb. If anyone has a lead on one that would be great. Or if someone can tell me what other computer would interchage would be great also
Welcome to the forum
What engine is in the 1993, there were 3 options, 2.3l, 3.0l and 4.0l?
And manual or automatic trans?
Also does the engine have an EGR Valve or no EGR?
These all matter
2WD or 4x4 doesn't matter to engine computer
That part number is not specific enough
F3 = 1993
7Z = Ranger Electrical
12A650 = Engine computer(PCM) from ANY Ford model from 1980 to 2019, they still use this number
The suffix number, CB in your case, can denote engine size and transmission type, but Ford NEVER published a cross reference for these Numbers/Letters
Now there should also be a STAMPED number on the PCM label, and there should be a white sticker with the same number under the hood near computers location
The Stamped number is the Software loaded on at the factory, and no cross reference for these either, some info here: Fuel Injection Technical Library » EEC Program Codes
Best bet is to find F37Z-12A650 PCM and then find out if its from correct engine size, and manual or automatic trans, and EGR or no EGR, if you have an EGR you can use the no EGR software, but not visa versa
Just FYI, Ford Dealers will give you the wrong numbers just about every time for PCM compatability

Computer
The motor is a 3.0 it is a manual trans ac has been removed. Has power steering and brakes just need to get this thing going soon. I do t have the orignal computer the one that was in it is from a 90 or 91 model so no clue on some of the other info
Have a look on Ebay seems to be a few for 1993 3.0l manual rangers
What about EGR?
Google: ebay F37Z-12A650 3.0l
A 1993 or 1994 3.0l will work, so F3 or F4
M/T is manual transmission
And just FYI, in 1993 spark system is not controlled by computer, it uses a distributor and TFI module for spark, so misfires could be from that system
Computer(PCM) in 1993 3.0l did try to use sequential fuel injection but could switch to Batch Fire if there were misfires to see if an injector was not working right
You can read the 3 digit computer codes counting CEL(check engine light) flashes
Read here on where to put Jumper wire, from STI to Sig-RTN on the OBD connector: https://therangerstation.com/tech_library/OBD_I.shtml
OBD connector is in the engine bay usually near fuse box or computer, may have a cover that has EEC on it
Once jumper is in place turn on the key and count the flashes, if you turn the key off while codes are flashing the codes will be cleared
3-code list here: https://therangerstation.com/tech_li...gitcodes.shtml
You may get ignition codes which means computer is probably OK its the spark system that is causing misfires

The spark is fine. I'm not getting pulse to the injectors on the driverside of the block. I have injector pulse to the other side I can ground the individual injectors on the 4 5 and 6 and truck starts running better I do know the computer controls that function and that is where my issue is
That is odd, the 3.0l in 1993/4 should have 6 separate wire colors for the 6 injectors
All the injectors should get 12volts with key on, on the Red wire, check that
The 3 on one bank not working would be almost impossible even in Batch Fire as the center injector opens on one ground and the two end injectors on the another ground.
A red wire issue would be more likely since it just daisy chains from one injector to the next
Here are the wiring diagrams for the 1994 3.0l which is the same as 1993
The timing for the injectors comes from the IDM signal, on the TFI module, basically the tachometer signal

Truck doesnt have egr. I have the repair manual for the truck. I have power coming to all injectors on the red power wire and also power on the ground side of those wires also I've traced the wires to the fender well at the computer and have power on the ground side coming from computer to the injectors. I have pulled the 4 5 and 6 injector and tested them out side the truck and they open when power and ground is applied. Each injector has it's on color specific ground wire
Then you have done all you can, sorry to cover old ground

One other thing, PCM connector has a few Ground wires, did you test those for good grounds?
Pins 16, 20, 40 and 60
