2020 Break Controller

My Sister in law has a 2020 Ranger 2.3 and asked me to install a hitch for her. She lives about 90 mins away so i have not seen the actual truck to look at things. Her truck came with a flat trailer plug from the factor but not the 7-way. I believe i can buy a plug for the harness that i can use for the 7way but am a bit confused on the controller.

I have seen some write ups say there is a pig tail under the dash, some that say there are blue and yellow wires and some that say there is nothing. I am trying to understand what is actually going to be there so I can buy the correct stuff.,

Best I can tell it seems that Ford added / changed the way they did trailer wiring in 2020 (vs the 2019 Ranger)

Looking for some advise on someone who has done this.

Thanks !

This guy gives great instructions.

I bought the Ford controller before I checked behind the drivers kick panel. My XLT did not have the needed blue and yellow wires.

I returned controller and went with a Curt for my 7 pin (you don't have on yours I believe) https://www.etrailer.com/tv-review-c...er-c51180.aspx

Good luck

As far as I know, have read, the Rangers had to be ordered with the Trailer Tow Package option to get the Brake Controller wiring harness, it also included the Class IV hitch

So you will need to run a wire for that

There are general standards for trailer wiring, seen here: https://www.therangerstation.com/tec...erLights.shtml
