00 Ranger 2.5 to 4.0 Swap.....Need Help!!

I have a 2000 Ranger XLT (non tortion bars) and am swapping in a 4.0 OHV from donor 99 Explorer (tortion bars). So far I have both engines out. Is there anything I should look out for?? My big question is what motor mounts do I use?? The frame mount position on both vehicles seem to be different and am concern that when I drop the engine in that it wont line up. Would appreciate feed back. Thanks

Thats what I was going to do originally but I read somewhere that the 4.0 and the 2.5 rangers have different mounting positions not sure if its true. I dont want to buy the mounts without knowing if it will work.

mounts may be different, but i doubt ford made three different frames for just the engines. i helped drop a 4.0 in a 93 with a 2.3. mounts bolted right up where the 4.0 mounts would go.

I'm doing this exact swap right now. I have a 1998 Ranger and swapping in a 2004 Ranger 4.0 and I had to move the passenger side mount a little. I am getting on with the swap and am looking for wiring info, mainly diagrams for the 2.5 and the 4.0 both so i can make one harness. Hate to thread jack but if there's any info out there that someone knows of I would appreciate it.

I really envy you guys that have the money and time to do all of that! I do not know about the motor mounts but there is a good chance that it will drop right in. Just make sure to get all of the wiring. Are you going to use the same tranny or the one from the explorer? I am just asking since you didn't say if yours was an automatic or not. If it is, it may be worth it to use the tranny from the explorer.

OK. So I just finished dropping in the engine. I could find the answer to my questions on the motor mounts so I just made a custom bracket.

All I need to do now is figure out the fuel lines since they do not seem to reach and figure out if I have to replace the steering columns. Does anyone know if I have to do this, because the engine and computer have Pats system and my Ranger does not.

You should be able to just swap the lock cylinder and the chip reader and wiring.

Would that work even if my ranger doesn't have Pats? How complicated is the wiring?

You can see the reader on the left it just slips over the column. The rest of pats system lives in the dash and and has most of its wiring buried in it.

You best option is to get a programmer and remove pats from it, leaving your locks alone. It is cheaper to reuse the expo stuff if you have it all.

ok so I changed the ignition lock and the reader that slips over it, on my truck nothing was connected to it. I connected the reader but my truck just cranks over and wont start. Is there more to the pats than just the key reader, keeping in mind my truck is non pats?

There is a module behind the passenger airbag that is married to the ECM of the pats vehicle.
