1990 4.0L: How do you remove the 90° Fuel Line from the Fuel Pressure Regulator?

Last weekend I removed the bed and replaced the fuel filler tube, a few days later I noticed gas leaking from the top of the fuel pressure regulator.

I bought the quick disconnect tool, sanded it down to fit between the regulator and the fuel line but it would not push up.

The tool or the filler tube?

I got the tube from the net, it was not as stiff as the old one and I had to shorten it but the bends matched.
