1994 ranger running ultra rich
1994 ranger running ultra rich
I've tested the injector wiring and both wires are getting 12 volts so I assume the wires have rubbed together and shorted any input on where to look?

Welcome to the forum
How did you test the wires?
All injectors will show 12v on BOTH wires if they are plugged in to the injector, injector just has a coil of wire inside, so 12v in = 12v out
More common place to leak fuel into the engine is the Fuel Pressure Regulator(FPR)
FPR on a 1994 4.0l is just behind and below the alternator on the lower intake manifold
You will see the Return fuel line attached to FPR, and also a VACUUM HOSE
If FPR's diaphragm leaks the Vacuum hose will suck raw fuel into the engine, causing rich running
Pull off that vacuum hose and check it for gasoline, or pull off the vacuum hose and cycle key on and off 3 times and see if fuel is dripping out of FPR
If you think an injector is leaking then pull out all 6 spark plugs, if there is a leaking injector the spark plug tip on that one cylinder will be black from carbon build up
If FPR was leaking then several spark plugs will have black tips because all were running Rich mix

Then next step would be to open up the computer and have a look inside
Its in engine bay driver's side down low between firewall and inner fender
You can see the larger wiring harness going to its 60 pin connector
There are a few videos on removal, its not that hard
DISCONNECT BATTERY FIRST
Once you have it opened you will most likely see some corrosion and a bad capacitor or 3
Corrosion can be cleaned off with isopropyl alcohol and q-tips
The 3 capacitors can be replaced, under $5
Engine running Lean can be a few things, engine running RICH is either the FPR or the computer
Even if you have a leaking injector that would only effect that one cylinder, causing misfire and poor running it wouldn't effect all cylinders, and would only set rich code on one Bank of the engine, maybe, more likely to set a Lean code because cylinder is misfiring
O2 sensors can only SEE oxygen, not fuel, so Rich code means Low oxygen in exhaust, misfire doesn't burn any oxygen so too much oxygen in exhaust, so leaking injector would cause Lean code, as odd as that sounds, lol

Google: Electronic parts (name of city)
You can also order them on line, you want the black ones instead of blue, but you may have to order 10 of each, lol, but they are very cheap
The uF must match
But the voltage can be higher than whats on there now
So if one is 16uF 36v, you can use 16uF 100v, but NOT 24v
After you take one off use "deox" or isopropyl alcohol and Qtips to clean residue off
These are directional, they have a + and - wire/side
