2.5-4.0 OHV Swap
What’s up everybody? I have a 2001 Ford Ranger XL regular cab 2WD 2.5L 5spd. I was wanting to swap in a 4.0 OHV motor. From what I understand 01 was the first year for the 4.0 SOHC, so can I get a 4.0 out of a 2000 ranger or explorer with the 4.0 OHV? Correct me if I’m wrong but I will need the following motor, transmission, wiring harness/pcm, motor mounts. Is the transmission support different for the 4.0? I have a 98 explorer axle with 373 LSD and I’ll be lowering the front 2 inches. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Be easier to just sell the 2001 and buy a 4.0l Ranger
But yes the 1990-2000 Ranger or 1994-2000 Mazda B4000, or the 1994-2000 Explorer(base motor) used the 4.0l OHV engine
And yes engine and trans would be needed, all these models used the same transmissions, manual or automatic so transmission mounting should be the same
And motor mounts, the 4cyl has an engine cross brace that needs to be removed
Yes PCM and wiring harness and exhaust and radiator
1998 and up source would be best as 1997 and earlier used different fuel system, still doable
1998 4.0l PCM won't have PATS(passive anti-theft), 1999/2000 will, so you would need PATS module WITH PCM as they are a matched set, and at least 1 PATS key to get PCM to work, there is a transceiver on the key slot and if possible get the key cylinder as well so PATS key will fit
