Ok we are back. Very disheartened...we finally took care of fuel pressure leak issue by replacing fuel injector o-rings. Dealt with P0118 code which was a wiring issue to the ECT sensor just to come back with a P0117 code. In any case least of our worries. Finally went for first test drive and engine sound terrible, like a diesel, lots of noise. Oil gauge starts flipping out, gauge check comes on, ABS light comes on, more noises from the engine, barely make it home, put in neutral, engine dies and battery is dead. All this work replacing heads and all. Don’t know where to start other than a junkyard only will have to tow it there now :(. Any thoughts come to mind folks?

we had good compression, no misfires, no codes other than the P0117.

Noise?

When engine is stone cold, remove fan belt from crank
Start engine
You can run an engine for approx 2 min without a water pump, NO LONGER!!!!

See if you can localize the noise

Also what were the last set of compression numbers like, 2000 4.0l should be 155-165psi

And as always, check firing order, its very easy to goof up on coil pack
3 4
2 6
1 5

We will take comp readings again but all were ~150 with I think #1 at 180 for some reason.

engine just sounds loud like it’s unlubricated. Oil pump maybe?

with do water pump test you suggested and report back.

thanks!

Not a water pump test
You do it so the accessories and FAN are not spinning, making the engine bay very quiet so you can hear engine noise and localize it
