2001 4.0 SOHC Timing Chain..
2001 4.0 SOHC Timing Chain..
Okay, I bought a 2001 Ranger Edge about 4-5 months ago. Went through the thing extremely well with a couple friends. Ive put about 6k miles on it and its getting the "death rattle". Its starting to sound bad. It has 88k on it. I would like to know my options. I know its very costly to have the tensioners replaced. Did the motors change very much, like could I drop a 03+ block in it to solve the problem. Because I hear that most of the time you replace the chain tensioners and they just break again in around 30 - 40k. Whats the best solution? Thanks!
Well that sucks to hear yours is about to break. I'm at 108K with no rattle *knock on wood*
I think after 03 the problem was pretty well solved.
I never heard of them breaking again though, although I heard if you buy the newer tensioners when you replace them, you should be good to go.
