2004 4L V6 SOHC conrod to piston orientation
2004 4L V6 SOHC conrod to piston orientation
I have an 04 Ranger XLT w/ 4L V6 SOHC. What's the correct orientation of the connecting rod to the piston? I'm having to rebuild due to massive timing failure. I didn't check orientation before tearing it apart. I think it may be this: With the piston in the forward facing orientation (the engine fwd side facing up towards you), the weight at the pin end faces to the right. I need to make sure though. (I put this ? on here in a new thread around 2 weeks ago, and it's no where to be found now. I need to shake a leg here). Thanks!

Based on my engine's stock rods and pistons you are correct. I have discovered a rule based on this that the tangs on the rods face the same direction as the tangs on the main bearings.
