Generation 4 =1998-2001
Generation 5 = 2002+ (A mere facelift?). Fuel lines (single to engine) are the same ('98 + '04).Re transmissions, 2001- Ford added an Output Shaft Speed Sensor (OSS) to all transmissions. An adapter for some older vehicles is available.
The driveshafts are one piece 1998-2011, so that's good.

Be aware of the location of these modules in your years.

1995-2003 has Ground Electric Module GEM-Body computer-behind radio.
2001-2003 4X4CM’s were in passenger’s kick panel.
2004-2011 4X4CM relocated to behind the radio.
2004 - on has HEC (Hybrid Electronic Cluster) where PCM is married to the instrument cluster and SJB (Smart Junction Box) in passenger’s kick panel.
Replacement PCM (rare) requires dealership marrying.
1995-2011 have “new” 104-pin computer in firewall above the heater hoses. ’83-’94 have the old 60 wire computer.

IMPORTANT: 1998 didn't have PATS but 2004 did. PATS is the unbeatable anti-theft system.
Make sure you have keys + antenna in ignition lock ('04 steering column into the '98 body?) to send OK signal to the PATS part of the CEM.

This is everything from my notes re your year vehicles.
